Star has been to her first IBHA show. She was shown at the July 27-28, 2002 UMBHA show at Prairie du Chien, WI. This was only her second show, the first being a small open show just to get her exposed to the show atmosphere. She did really well. We still need to learn to stand still for more than 10 seconds when there is so much to look at and so many other horses in the ring with her. :-)
Star was shown in IBHA Open Two year old Mares and placed 1st under both judges on Saturday and 3rd under both judges on Sunday (she was kinda tired and cranky - it was about 93 degrees outside.) She was also shown in IBHA Amateur Mares where she placed 3rd under one judge and 4th under the other on Saturday. Now I can't remember where she placed on Sunday but I believe it was 3rd and 4th again. We did not show lounge line at this show, but will show her in that at the next IBHA show we make it too.
For her First IBHA show, Star has come home with 2 Halter points!!!! We are very proud of her and look forward to doing even better in the future. She will do well in western pleasure and western riding when she is older.
Dunny also has been to his first IBHA show. He was shown at the July 27-28, 2002 UMBHA show at Prairie du Chien, WI. This was only his second show, the first being a small open show just to get him exposed to the show atmosphere. He also did really well. We have learned that he needs to be coaxed to drink more water at the show, so we will either be taking enough water with us for him, or teaching him to drink a flavored water (such as putting the apple flavored electrolytes in his water at home and at shows) so that he drinks more. We also learned that he is very sluggish out of his stall in the morning. Since I had to hand off Star and run and get him for his class, he went from stall straight into the arena in the morning. :-)
Dunny was shown in IBHA Open Two year old Geldings (which we had to keep telling them - he is ONLY 2 yrs old - not 3 or more!!! He is 16.1 hands already and still growing lots) and placed 1st under both judges Saturday and Sunday (He was the only one shown.) He was also shown in IBHA Amateur Geldings where he placed placed 5th under one judge and 2nd under the other on Saturday and 1st under one judge and 4th under the other on Sunday We did not show lounge line at this show, but will show him in that at the next IBHA show we make it too. He was not *halter fit* like the rest he competed against, because he just keeps using everything we give him to grow instead of putting on weight - so if we can get him to put on some weight and get fit, then we should do even better.
For his First IBHA show, Dunny has come home with 1 Halter point!!!! We are very proud of him and look forward to doing even better in the future. Duuny is really not what we call a Halter Horse. His strong suit will be under saddle in the Hunter events.
Coolie was kicked in the hock, as was Peggy below (yes, by the same horse as they were out together), so we have decided to give them the year off. They are healed nicely, and we will be starting them under saddle this fall/winter.

We have been slowly getting Miss Te ready for showing. She should do nicely in Yearling halter and Yearling lounge-line at the September UMBHA show. We don't want to rush her, so we have been only working her for 3 minutes a couple days a week on lounging - as well as a short time working on setting up and standing still. You only have 3 minutes in the ring, so we figured that is all the time we would need to work her. I usually do not work my yearlings at all, but have decided to try this method to see if it works. That way she is not tired, or stressing her muscles and legs. She is also not building up muscle mass other than what she does out playing in the pasture.
Miss Te has been sold to Hass Quarter Horses!!!!! Watch for her in the 2003 IBHA Shows!!
